“Digital School” Vienna
Vocational School Hütteldorferstraße
After the great success in Vienna’s biggest vocational school in Mollardgasse, our second biggest assignment in the SDIGI project was the vocational school Hütteldorfer Straße 7-17 in Vienna’s 15th district.
The school is located across the street from today’s Stadthalle. Old records confirm that there was a cemetery on the site from 1784 and a circus or later a vaudeville from 1891. Hütteldorfer Strasse did not exist at that time, and was built only after the cemetery and circus were abandoned and demolished.
In 1925, the historic building was constructed in the record time of only 15 months. It was one of the largest school construction projects in the history of Vienna – 8000 square meters were built on an area of 3,000 square meters – and at the time of its construction, it was the most modern school building of its kind in Europe.
It was with this spirit that the already proven “School Digital Team” embarked on this exciting project. In just 10 months, while the school was in full operation, they installed almost 900 data sockets, 17 network cabinets and nearly 180 access points for fast Internet in the classrooms.
The special challenge here was the delicate fire protection in a building full of mysterious building substances and the large number of students and people from the Education Directorate in the building. A building full of surprises!
Confidently and with explicit compliments from the entire commissioning team, the project was officially handed over shortly before Christmas. The installation has already been successfully switched on and off, and the final inspection is just a formality.
